She was the subject of Simone de Beauvoir’s 1959 essay “The Lolita Syndrome”, which described Bardot as a “locomotive of women’s history” and built upon existentialist themes to declare her the first woman of post-war France. Starting in 1969, Bardot’s features became the official face of “Marianne”, to represent liberty of France. Brigitte Bardot retired from the entertainment industry in 1973. After her retirement, Bardot established herself as an animal rights activist.

Danielle Colby Cushman is an American burlesque dancer, and reality television personality. She is best known for starring on the History Channel reality television show “American Pickers”. Colby had owned and participated in a female roller derby team (“Big Mouth Mickies”) until injuries forced her to give up the sport. So she decided she wanted to do burlesque. She attended a burlesque performance starring comedienne Margaret Cho and legendary dancer Satan’s Angel. Danielle Colby-Cushman characterized the event as amazing. “Growing up in a strict household, I think I went into that evening thinking that burlesque was taboo and wrong and bad. But what I realized after I left that event was how absolutely liberating it was, to be in a room with women on stage who were ranging from a size zero to a size of, easily, 28 – all different types of women, with all different strengths!”
She moved to Iowa, settling in the Quad Cities area, and became determined to make her desire a reality. There she started creating her own burlesque troupe, the “Burlesque Le’Moustache”. The team features nine performers, including Colby-Cushman herself, dancing under the stage name “Dannie Diesel”. It tours nightclubs and other various venues in eastern Iowa and western Illinois.

Spitzer and Prostitutes – There are new reports that fmr. Gov. Eliot Spitzer met regularly with prostitutes in several cities for more than a year before his resignation. However, prosecutors have said Spitzer did not use campaign or govt. funds for those meetings. (June 2)
