Uma Khurana not guilty - It happened five years ago, in August 2007. Remember Uma Khurana? She was a mathematics teacher at the Government Girls’s School in Old Delhi, and was almost lynched by a mob after a sting operation alleged, she had blackmailed her students into prostitution. She was just an ordinary public-school teacher, but suddenly out of nothing – within 24 hours – she had been dismissed by the Education Department, mobbed, arrested and charged under the Immoral Trafficking Prevention Act – all based on so-called “facts” uncovered by a TV sting operation. She was accused of forcing her students into prostitution. When it aired, the story provoked predictable public outrage. Uma Khurana was set upon by an enraged mob. But it turned out, that the story was just lies. A simple investigation and viewing of the unedited tapes led the police to declare the “scandal” a hoax. Uma Khurana had been framed by a businessman who claimed she owed him money. The ambitious young reporter, the “victim” and the businessman were arrested on charges including fabricating evidence, impersonation and cheating. The case had been transferred to the Delhi High Court, which had granted bail to Uma Khurana. Later she was formally cleared.

Spitzer and Prostitutes – There are new reports that fmr. Gov. Eliot Spitzer met regularly with prostitutes in several cities for more than a year before his resignation. However, prosecutors have said Spitzer did not use campaign or govt. funds for those meetings. (June 2)

Prostitution Ring in New Mexico - Last Sunday, authorities arrested a 68-year-old physics professor from Farleigh Dickinson University because they say he was one of seven leaders of a 200-strong prostitution ring in New Mexico, where he owns a summer home. Albuquerque police say Professor Dr. David Flory had an even higher-profile accomplice: septuagenarian political science professor emeritus F. Chris Garcia, who used to be an interim president of the University of New Mexico. Garcia’s role was to solicit “talent” for the pair’s web site, which was called Southwest Companions. According to The Albuquerque Journal, police believe Garcia wasn’t motivated by money, but that he wanted to provide a safe place for prostitution without risk of arrest.

Flory told police he also didn’t run the site for money, but rather considered it a hobby. The site’s more than 1,000 members paid anywhere between $10 to $1,000 for an hour of sex with a prostitute. Flory is charged with 40 counts of promoting prostitution, while Garcia faces charges of promoting prostitution, tampering with evidence and conspiracy. An employee at Farleigh Dickinson University, told the press that the incident is a big PR blow for the university, which is still recovering from the revelation in 2005 that it employed a member of the pro-Nazi National Socialist Movement to teach European history. “People jokingly refer to it as ‘Farleigh Ridiculous,’” the employee said. The source described Flory as a “very opinionated guy, very sure of himself and sure of his opinions.” He wore a large cowboy hat and cowboy boots, which made him stick out from the New Jersey academic crowd. Fairleigh officials said in a statement they were “saddened” by the charges.

Irans Illegal Prostitution Rings – Part 4/5. The Filmmakers from “The Passionate Eye” give us am insight into the reality of Iran’s Mut’ah rings. Mut’ah means Prostitution. We follow the stories of two Irani women who have fallen victim to the vicious cycle of living life as a Mut’ah prostitute. Mut’ah was originally a practice done as temporary marriage. This was commonly found throughout the Arabian peninsula during what is called Jahaliyyah, or pre-Islamic times. After Islam came and the Prophet Muhammad (saw) began teaching the religion of Allah, he did not immediately outlaw Mut’ah as you will find many different early accounts in which Mut’ah was still permissible. However once the people were ready and their faith had grown, the Prophet (saw) outlawed Mut’ah for the Muslims along with such practices as drinking of alcohol. As it was said on the authroity of the Prophet (saw): O people, I had permitted you Mutah before, [but now] whoever of you has any part in it currently must part with her, and do not take back anything which you may have given them, as Allah Exalted and Majestic has forbidden it until the day of resurrection. [Muslim, Abu Dawood, Ibn Majah, Nasa`i, and Darimi] And as it is reported on the Authority of Imam Ali (ra): The Messenger of Allah had forbidden Mutah on the day of Khaybar and had forbidden the eating of the meat of domestic camels.

Police Target Prostitution in Undercover Sting - ”You’re under arrest for patronizing a prostitute.” Kob eyewitness news 4 is right there as undercover detectives target prostitution on the streets of Albuquerque, New Mexico. We were the crew there – as police set up in one of the busiest areas of town for prostitution. Kayla Anderson gets a rare look at how things unfold. “I was invited to set up at Central and Florida with a team of undercover detectives, keeping a close watch on a detective posing as a prostitute. In three hours police arrested nine people.”

An undercover female detective paces central. she’s ready for anything. When it comes to sex and drugs, nothing really shocks here anymore. We watch as car after car goes by, sharking. The ‘johns’ – people looking for sex – are scoping out the area, checking out the girls, gathering the courage to make an offer. Detectives are all around. but they’re good at what they do. The johns can’t see them, and that’s the point. They’re just seconds away, listening to a mic on the decoy detective. She’ll get the john and once they have a date, she’ll gives us the signal that a date’s been made. There has been a criminal violation.

Oklahoma: Suspected Prostitute Discarded – A suspected street prostitute is discarded along South Robinson Ave. In south Oklahoma City, most likely by a pimp or ‘John.’ OKC police, fire and ambulance respond to the scene. Without regard to the woman’s physical condition and possible injuries, first responders do little more than gawk at her, laugh and manhandle her – exposing her to the potential of further neck, back and internal injuries. To add insult to injury members of both the OKC fire department and police departments use their personal cell phones to take photos of the lifeless woman. This video is a graphic example of how woman that are assumed to be prostitutes and or drug addicts are often considered less than human by even public servants and medical personnel. I’ve personally seen animal control treat the carcass of a run over dog better than they treated this woman.
